Good afternoon ladies, my name is Joanne Chen and I am a departmental secretary at AGB Nielsen Media Research Taiwan. This afternoon I'm going to talk about "How flying has gotten cheaper". This talk is about how many no-frills airlines price their flights and how travelers find the cheapest flights. I shall take about 5 to 6 minutes of your time. I've divided my presentation into two parts. First of all I'll brief you on EasyJet, one of the no-frills airlines and then some tips of getting the cheapest flights will be outlined.

That’s all for my introduction, now let’s move on to the first part of my presentation.  I’ll define “no frills airline” and then brief you on EasyJet, a major no-frills carrier.

A no-frills airline is an airline that offers generally low fares and eliminates many traditional passenger services. The concept came from the United States before spreading to Europe in the early 1990s and then to much of the rest of the world. EasyJet is one of these no-frills airlines, based at London Luton Airport. It is one of the largest no-frills airlines in Europe, operating domestic and international scheduled services on 387 routes between 104 airports in Europe and north Africa. The founder, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, established EasyJet at 1995 when he was  28.EasyJet 's aircraft carry around 150 passengers plus three to four flight attendants only. The airline does not provide free meals or beverages on board its flights. Passengers may pay for it. Onboard sales are an important part of the airline's ancillary revenue.

That’s all for the first part of my presentation.  Now I’ll give you some tips for flying on no-frills airlines.

The most important thing to remember is to book as early as possible and to be flexible about dates. Travelling on weekends and on Fridays and Mondays is more expensive than on the other days of the week bucause flights on those days are more crowded. To get the cheapest fare, fly on the earliest or the latest flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. It is better to book online than on the phone because all the airlines give a discount for online bookings.

The above covers all I wanted to say today and let me briefly summarize some key points again. There are many no-frills airlines – the first ones were established in the USA before the concept moved abroad.  We discussed EasyJet, which is one major no-frills airline based in England.  Make travelling dates flexible, take flights of the weekdays and book online to get better price. I'd like to leave you with the following thought. In general, no-frills airlines have a worse record for punctuality than the traditional airlines and customers complain more about the delays of low-cost airlines.  If you choose to fly with a no-frills airline, you need to consider this and be flexible if you encounter problems.
Thanks for all your patience and listening. Any questions?

If that’s all for questions, then I’d like to thank you all again for listening.  Have a nice day.
